What is Arts Matter Day?

Arts Matter Day is a day of community giving on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 to support arts nonprofits in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties. Arts supporters can give to their favorite arts organizations, and the Charleston Regional Alliance for the Arts will enable those dollars go further by providing incentive funds to all participating groups.

What are incentive funds and how do they affect my donation?

The Arts Alliance has raised $150,000 in incentive funds from local donors for Arts Matter Day. These funds will be distributed proportionately based on the amount raised and the number of participants, and while they are not technically “matching” funds, the Arts Alliance expects an average return of 10%-15% to each organization. Therefore, your donation has the potential to grow, enhancing your gift and increasing community impact.

Who is eligible to take part in Arts Matter Day?

Any arts organization in the tri-county area that is a registered 501(c)3 or operates under the umbrella of a fiscal sponsor with a 501(c)3 is eligible. For an updated list of participants, please click here. Don’t see your favorite arts nonprofit? Please contact them and let them know you want them to participate so that you your donation can go even further.

Can I give to multiple organizations?

We hope you will! Our user friendly donation portal will allow you to specify where your tax-deductible donation will go, which includes the option to spread it across multiple organizations.

What if I’m not sure which group to give to?

You can donate directly to the Charleston Regional Alliance for the Arts, and we can re-grant those funds through our Lowcountry Arts Fund. A list of our previous grantees is available at . Because we have relationships with more than 90 arts non-profits in the tri-county area, the Arts Alliance is uniquely positioned to vet Arts Fund recipients.

Why is the Arts Alliance the right choice to spearhead Arts Matter Day?

The Arts Alliance’s sole mission is to promote the arts in the tri-county area. We do not produce shows or exhibits, nor do we have a venue. We’re dedicated to the shared realization of a dynamic and thriving arts community by serving arts organizations in Charleston. We’re here because Arts Matter.
